buffer amplifier

As can be seen from the name buffer amplifier, such an amplifier forms a buffer against load or impedance dependent changes.

Buffer amplifiers are used in audio technology and reduce the influence that impedance-dependent outputs and changing power consumption can have on the input of an amplifier. A buffer amplifier stage is placed between a load-dependent output amplifier and a preamplifier whenever the degradation from the changing load is relatively large.

Typically, buffer amplifiers are located between power amplifiers and preamplifiers, where they reduce the influence that low and changing speaker impedance has on the preamplifier. Buffer amplifiers are not only used in analog technology, but also in digital technology, where they reduce similar effects.
