cable harness

Cable harnesses (KBL), cable harnesses, are designed to prevent cable clutter in devices and systems or in automobiles and aircraft and reduce production costs. They are bundled individual cables that are combined in a cable harness for the sake of clarity. Supply voltages, data, audio, video, control and monitoring signals can be transmitted and field buses implemented via such a wiring harness.

A cable harness can therefore consist of individual wires, of shielded and unshielded cables, of balanced and unbalanced cables, of coaxial cables, special cables, stranded wires, plastic and polymer fibers. The individual cables are selected according to their requirements.

A cable harness is used to connect electronic circuits to each other or to other components, sensors to transducers or actuators to control units and supply voltages. The cables and their connectors are always based on the position of the component in the corresponding system, device or motor vehicle. This means that the cables are of different lengths, begin and end in different places, and are terminated with different plugs, connectors and cable lugs.

Cable harnesses are assembled according to the applications. They are used in devices and systems for telecommunications, mobile radio transmission technology, medical technology, audio and video systems, space travel, shipping and automotive technology. Cable harnesses can be protected against overload with fuses, but also with thermal PPTC devices. PPTCs work like overtemperature protection, but they are resettable and do not need to be replaced.
