cadmium (Cd)

Cadmium (Cd) is a highly toxic heavy metal, which has the atomic number 48 in the periodic table of chemical elements.

Cadmium belongs to the second main group and is combined with other elements such as selenide, sulfite or tellurite to form a semiconductor material.

Cadmium or cadmium compounds such as cadmium selenide, cadmium telluride or cadmium sulfide are used in II- VI compound semiconductors, in rechargeable batteries and in solar cells.
