- The callback procedure is used to check the identification of a caller by an upstream instance. According to the procedure, this instancechecks the caller's identification, interrupts the connection and does not set it up until the identity has been checked. The connection is set up on the basis of the stored phone numbers, and the instance asks for identification once again. Only after the identification has been checked again does the instance establish the connection to the system.
- Indigital networks and mobile networks, callback is a feature that is activated when a certain event occurs. This can be a busy condition( CCBS) or the fact that the subscriber does not answer( CCNR). The callback is then initiated on the network side from the exchange.
- In telecommunications, callback is a service to save telephone costs. With the callback service, the subscriber calls an exchange computer, which releases a trunk line for him. The subscriber can then make his or her telephone call at a special callback rate. This service is recommended for international calls, among other things.
