cell broadcast entity (SMS) (CBE)

The Cell Broadcast Entity (CBE) is used by the information provider to define and control Cell Broadcasts( SMS-CB).

This variant of short message service (SMS) allows cell broadcast (CB) messages to be sent as alphanumeric information to a specified group of mobile subscribers within a regional area. The Cell Broadcast Entity, which may be located within the information provider's premises, transmits the SMS CB via the Cell Broadcast Center( CBC) to an appropriate Base Station Controller( BSC) within the relevant cellular network.
