central exchange

The central exchange is the switching node at the highest level of the hierarchically structured long-distance network.

Central exchanges are positioned as transit nodes in the meshed core network and are connected to the main exchanges (HVSt) , which are located one level lower in the long-distance network hierarchy, to international exchanges (AVSt) or to other central exchanges via a cross line.
