In the context of IT knowledge, a channel is a closed, structured communicationpath between two devices on which data exchange takes place. It is also referred to as a physical channel. A channel can form a direct or a switched point-to-point connection between communication devices. It is typically hardware intensive and can transmit data at high speed with low overhead. Inradio technology and in frequency-dependent transmission systems, a channel is a frequency range within a total available frequency spectrum.
