Channel extensions are used in block multiplex channels to transmit data at high data rates between computers over longer distances. In principle, channel extensions can be used in the in-house area with distances of up to approx. 100 meters via fiber optic cables or also in the campus area with distances between 2 and 7 km and in the supra-regional area via public networks.
