code of accounts (PM)
In project management, the Code of Accounts is an account key used to identify each component in the work breakdown structure.
The Code of Accounts simplifies the identification of individual components without having to remember the long component names. It is an identification system in which each individual component is assigned a unique identifier consisting of letters and numbers that is valid for the entire duration of the project. The Code of Account generally uses the letters A through Z, and for more than 26 components, a letter-letter combination such as AA, AB, etc., or a letter- digit combination such as A1, A2, etc. This number system can be extended as desired.
