Coincidence is the simultaneity of two or more events.

Sensory perception plays the decisive role in the evaluation of coincidence. Thus, acoustic signals are evaluated differently than, for example, optical impressions, since the auditory faculty has a temporally higher resolution than the visual faculty. In the case of hearing, the differences in transit time for higher tones may only amount to a few milliseconds for the listener to describe the tones as coincident. The situation is different for optical stimuli, where coincidence is still identified at travel time differences of 20 ms and more.
