collision mitigation brake system (automotive) (CMBS)

Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS) is an active, preventive damage mitigation driver assistance system that uses millimeter wave radar. It is a warning and active assistance system.

When a CMBS system detects a risk of collision with a vehicle in front, and when the distance between the two vehicles has fallen below a speed-dependent value, the driver is alerted to the possibility of collision with a warning signal. If the distance between the two vehicles decreases further, there is a visual warning signal and a haptic warning signal in addition to the acoustic warning signal. The latter can be a jerky tightening of the seat belts or the shaking of the driver's seat. If the distance decreases further, the CMBS system actively intervenes and brakes the vehicle.
