common business oriented language (COBOL)
The Common Business Oriented Language (COBOL) was developed in 1957 as a programming language for commercial applications. Cobol is an internationally standardized, problem-oriented programming language for commercial and administrative computer applications.
In Cobol, the commands to be executed are not written in mathematical form (a = b/x), as in Fortran, but in normal notation "Divide B by X Giving A". The suppliers of Cobol have constantly improved the development environment and equipped it with new tools. Thus, Cobol can be used for dialog and client- server applications in addition to processing mass data. In addition, object-oriented Cobol has extensive class libraries, mature compilers and object broker interfaces.
The independence of Cobol has led to greater flexibility and user-friendliness over the years.
