common content inspection (CCI)
Common Content Inspection (CCI) is a programming interface ( API) that is used to distribute tasks to different instances of a gateway. CCI is intended to distribute the multitude of tasks and thus ensure that no bottlenecks occur at the gateway. CCI aims to detach the inspection of content more from the rest of the gateway activities, so that routers and firewalls can restrict themselves to traffic inspection. The content is thus separated from the protocol-specific byte streams and inspected separately, which leads to an acceleration of the data traffic.
