common management information service (CMIS)

Common Management Information Service(CMIS) defines the service primitives and the information structure as the basis of OSI management. CMIS is based on the Common Management Information Protocol( CMIP) and is standardized under ISO 9596.

The common management services CMIS and CMIP are the counterpart to the functional elements Common Application Service Elements( CASE) for network management. They are the basis of all management functions and support the exchange of information and commands for network management purposes between two equal applications on the same level.

In addition to CMIS and CMIP, Application Control Service Element ( ACSE) and Remote Operation Service Element( ROSE) are used by the application layer service elements. ACSE and ROSE are not part of the OSI management specifications, but form the basis for the basic functionality of message exchange.
