common public radio interface (CPRI)

The CPRI interface, Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) or Common Packet Radio Interface (CPRI), is a serial interface in 4th generation( 4G) mobile radio networks.

The CPRI interface is a very fast connection over which the remote radio units( RRU) send data to the baseband unit, where the radio signals can be processed computationally.

Since the data volume in 5th generation( 5G) mobile networks is many times that of 4G, transmission between the remote radio unit (RRU) and the baseband unit is via optical fiber, with enhanced CPRI( eCPRI) replacing the CPRI interface.
