common short code (CSC)

A Common Short Code (CSC) is a short code for cell phones.

The short code is much shorter than the normal phone number and can only be used to transmit messages in the Short Message Service( SMS) and MultimediaMessaging Service( MMS) and not to establish voice connections. Short codes are country-specific numbers that are used as value-added services for specific purposes and must be applied for from the carrier. Typical areas of use are televoting, e-voting and opinion polls.
