compactPCI plus

The CompactPCI Plus extends the CompactPCI(CPCI) with serial buses. It was designed by the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group( PICMG) for the compact 3-HE and 6-HE systems. The CompactPCI Plus has a passive backplane and is intended to address the limited compatibility between the CompactPCI and CompactPCI Express, which is only available through active bridge slots. Therefore, the passive backplane lacks switch fabrics.

In place of the bridge slots, CompactPCI Plus has a peripheral slot through which PCI Express, Serial ATA( SATA), the USB interface and Ethernet are routed. These peripheral slots can be used for expansion cards, RAID adapters or Ethernet switches.
