component carrier (LTE-A, 5G) (CC)

Carrier aggregation( CA) is a method used in mobile communications to increase the data rate ofsubscribers. Each individual aggregated carrier represents a component carrier ( CC).

Carrier aggregation is used in 4th generation( 4G) and 5th generation( 5G) mobile networks. Whereby several frequency blocks, which are the component carriers, are assigned to one and the same subscriber. The more data blocks assigned to a subscriber, the higher its data rate. The number of component carriers (CC) is indicated by a decimal number. Two component carriers are identified by 2CC, three by 3CC, etc.

The component carriers can have a bandwidth of 1.4 MHz, 3 MHz, 5 MHz, 10 MHz, 15 MHz and 20 MHz. With 5CC, which is currently considered the maximum for 5G, and a bandwidth of 20 MHz, the aggregated bandwidth is 100 MHz.
