computer science network (CSNET)
The Computer ScienceNetwork (CSNET) is a network for research and universities in the USA with international connections. The CSNET does not have its own physical infrastructure, but is a meta-network that uses the transmission facilities of other networks on which it is implemented by means of the uniform communication protocolTCP/ IP. CSNET was founded in 1981 and at this stage it was based on ARPANET, the public X.25 network, Phonenet and Cypress. CSNET was merged with BITNET to form the Corporation for Research and Education Networking ( CREN).
