concise binary object representation (JSON) (CBOR)

Concise Binary Object Representation (CBOR) is a data format characterized by an extremely small code size and a sufficiently small message size.

The CBOR data format is based on the JavaScript Object Notation( JSON), which specifies arrays, maps, and strings, and a few simple decision criteria such as true, false, and null.

Applications benefit from CBOR because it offers faster processing speed due to the small code size and its encoding. Applications using the CBOR data format include machine-to-machine( M2M) communications in IoTivity and low power WANs( LPWAN) in the Internet of Things( IoT).

The CBOR data format is described in RFC 7049.
