consumer digital subscriber line (CDSL)

Consumer Digital Subscriber Line (CDSL) was a proprietary xDSL process from Rockwell and Nortel that aimed to significantly increase Internet access speeds.

CSDL achieved a data rate of 1 Mbit/s downstream and 128 kbit/s upstream. The CDSL process worked with a modem and could be used for distances of up to 5.5 km. One advantage of the process was that no splitter had to be installed at the user 's premises.

Since DSL technologies exceed the aforementioned data rates many times over, Rockwell has no longer supported the CDSL process for several years.
