cooperative intersection collision avoidance system (automotive, USA) (CICAS)
A Cooperative Intersection Collision Avoidance System (CICAS) is a driver assistance system for collision avoidance at intersections. It is a technology that is vehicle and infrastructure based and assists drivers in approaching and crossing intersections.
CICAS systems use infrastructure facilities at intersections, which can be radio beacons and traffic signals, and can detect potential hazards. The technology consists of vehicle-based sensor systems, processors, and driver interfaces; roadside infrastructure components that detect other vehicles approaching the intersection that could pose a hazard; and Dedicated Short Range Communication( DSRC), which has been proposed by the Federal Communications Commission ( FCC) for radio-based automotive safety-related transmissions. DSRC is how infrastructure components communicate with vehicle-based systems.
