coordinated multi point (LTE) (CoMP)

Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) is a technology based on the MIMO method, Multiple Input Multiple Output, for mobile networks following Long Term Evolution( LTE) and 5G, which was developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project( 3GPP). The CoMP procedure increases the data transmission rates ofLTE-A and ensures consistent quality of service in LTE and in 4th generation mobile networks.

The CoMP method works by coordinating and combining radio signals from multiple antennas and provides consistent performance and quality to the user within a radio cell. The user can thus receive all mobile services, including those with high data rates, with the same quality throughout the radio cell, regardless of whether the user is at the cell edge or near the cell center.

With CoMP, the subscriber device can simultaneously receive the base stations of two or more radio cells or also transmit radio signals to these base stations. This turns the interference that would otherwise occur at the radio cell edges into usable radio signals. However, implementation of the CoMP method requires extensive coordination between the various base stations, into which the channel characteristics are incorporated.
