cross polarisation discrimination (XPID) (XPD)

Cross Polar Discrimination (XPD) is the ratio of the received input level at different polarization planes of the antenna.

Antennas can transmit and receive RF signals with different polarization: vertical or horizontal. XPD discrimination is used to determine how high the signal level is at a particular polarization, as opposed to the signal level with the opposite polarization. This ratio is expressed in decibels( dB) and is a measure of an antenna's ability to receive signals with a particular polarization and reject signals of the same frequency and opposite polarization.
