customer edge router (CE)
A customer edgerouter(CE) is a router located in the customer premises and forms the interface between the customer LAN and the provider 's core network. Such a CE router is located at the transition from the customer network to the provider network and is connected on the provider side to a PE router ( provider edge).
On the CE router, the incoming IP datagrams can be divided into the various classes of service( CoS) and prioritized. This classification determines the treatment of the datagram on its way through the MPLS network, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).
Prioritization assigns higher priorities to real-time applications, such as Internet telephony or video conferencing, than to file transfers or Web-based applications.
