data integrity

Data integrity is one of the advanced security services. It uses similar security mechanisms as data protection during data transmission and works with checksum procedures.

To maintain data integrity, checksums are appended to the message to be transmitted, by which the recipient of the message recognizes its integrity.

The checksum procedure used is the Message Error Detection Code( MDC), in which the attacker either exchanges the message and the checksum at the same time or inserts a new message that results in the same checksum. However, data integrity can also be compromised by changing and manipulating the packet order. To avoid this, sequence numbers, timestamps, random numbers or other information is added to the messages to be included in the checksum.
