data processing (DP)

The generic term data processing covers all processes with which data is captured, processed, stored and output. This concept, namely the capture, processing and output of data, is referred to as the EVA principle.

In the past, data processing was done manually with index cards, accounts and lists, but later it became machine-based and is now done with computers, minicomputers and mainframes. This type of data processing is called electronic data processing( EDP).

Data processing is used in various areas of business, administration, communication, technology and science and includes technical-scientific and commercial-administrative tasks. It includes data acquisition, conversion, storage, data transmission and data output. The aim of data processing is to obtain information for the company, for production, warehousing, logistics and for other business areas from the data obtained.
