datagram length

The field Datagram length is a 16 bit long field in the IP header. Due to the 16 bits, the maximum datagram length can be 64 Kbytes. For larger data packets, the TCP protocol can fragment the data packets. The datagram length is specified in a multiple of 32 bits, the specification is required by the variable length of the option field in the IP header.
