desktop management interface (DMI)

The Desktop Management Interface (DMI) is an interface standard developed by the Desktop Management Task Force( DMTF), a group of leading communications companies.

The DMI standard for workstation management is an open standard and guarantees all manufacturers a common integration strategy for managing and maintaining their products.

DMI technology forms a standard for building easy-to-use, low-maintenance and interoperable products. The DMI interface can be implemented as hardware, software or as a peripheral device connected to a desktop PC. A DMI-enabled component or application can communicate its respective requirements to a higher- level DMI-enabled management application. To enable this, DMI-compliant products receive a Management Information File( MIF), which contains management-related specifications.
