Digital Cellular System(DCS) is the generic term for digital cellular networks.
The term Digital Cellular System often refers to the DCS-1800 network. In general, these are mobile communications networks that cover a specific geographical area with larger or smaller honeycomb-shaped radio cells. Mobile subscribers in DCS networks can move between radio cells and have uninterrupted reception due to handover.
The development of digital mobile communications networks began with the 2nd generation mobile communications networks, which include the GSM networks with their various variants, followed by the 3rd generation networks with UMTS, then the 4th generation with Long Term Evolution( LTE) and the 5th generation.
