digital satellite news gathering (DVB) (DSNG)

Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) is the digital form of analog satellite news coverage( SNG). Using the DSNG service, breaking news can be transmitted from the scene via an uplink to the satellite, from there to the newsroom, and then broadcast via the broadcast services of radio or television.

In digital DSNG, video data is compressed using MPEG-2 and transmitted as a serial data stream, Serial Digital Interface( SDI). As a modulation technique, DSNG uses effective quadrature phase shift ke ying( QPSK) for the uplink to the satellite.

Digital Satellite News Gathering uses DSNG vehicles, which can be vans equipped with broadcast equipment, to provide the uplink to the communications satellite. The DSNG vehicles have cameras, editing suites and mixing consoles, with preview and broadcast monitors, they are equipped with camcorders, magnetic tape recorders, complete audio equipment, and with microwave transmitters and dish antennas.
