direct access (DA)

  1. Direct Access (DA) is the customer's direct connection to a provider's network, via which local calls can also be made. To date, this has only been possible for residential customers with regional providers. Direct access is the subscriber line that is usually implemented via symmetrical copper twisted pairs.
  2. The term direct access is also used in memory technology. With direct access, the user can directly access a storage medium and retrieve or store data. The relative position of the storage medium is irrelevant.
