discard eligibility (DE)

The Discard Eligibility (DE) is a bit in the Frame Relay Header (FR) that signals a lower priority. In the event of overload, the frame relay network can identify such frames, which are then discarded. The function of the DE bit in frame relay is comparable to that of the cell loss priority (CLP) in ATM.
