distributed sample scrambler (ATM) (DSS)

The Distributed Sample Scrambler (DSS) method is an encryption method for the user data in ATM cells.

Since no adaptation of the cell format to the transmission frames of the respective transmission line is carried out in direct cell transmission (Cell Based Physical Layer), i.e. the cells are converted bit by bit directly into the electrical or optical signals for the respective transmission medium, the information field with the user data is transmitted in encrypted form. The Distributed Sample Scrambler (DSS) coding method used for this purpose works with a generator polynomial 'X^31 + X^28 +1'.
