docking station

A docking station is an accessory for mobile devices and mobile computers. It is a charging station that is connected to the power supply, has a connector strip for connecting the mobile device and can be equipped with various FireWire interfaces and USB interfaces.

For charging and operation, the mobile device, smartphone, notebook or netbook is plugged into the docking station's connector strip and supplied with operating voltage via it. Device batteries can be charged via this.

Laptops and notebooks work like a desktop with a docking station. The docking station itself provides all interfaces so that larger displays, other keyboards, mice, speakers or other peripheral devices like backup storage can be connected.

Functionally, docking stations only support the type of device they are designed for: a digital camera, wireless phone, PDA, notebook or other mobile device.
