duplicated content

The term duplicated content, also known as duplicates, is used in search engine optimization( SEO) for duplicate, duplicated or slightly changed content.

Duplicated content can refer to different web pages of the same domain, but also to web pages of other websites. Since search engines cannot recognize the originator of web pages with the same content, web pages with duplicated content are downgraded or even filtered out in the search engine operators' results pages( SERP).

The originator website also has the disadvantage that a certain proportion of the traffic is directed to the website with the copied content and is therefore no longer available to the content originator for marketing. An indication of the downgrading valuation of duplicated content can be seen in the decreasing number of affiliate websites.
