The term electronic signature covers a wide range of technologies for electronic signatures, including digital signatures.

Electronic signatures are technologies that are used to sign documents or transactions and authenticate the signer. The various signature technologies differ in terms of technical implementation, acceptance and geographical area of use, which is related to the laws in the different countries.

For transactions with smart cards, the electronic signature is used to generate a cryptogram in the chip. The cryptogram ensures that the issuer has carried out the transaction with an approved smart card. The issuance of a transaction certificate refers to all the data used to calculate the cryptogram.
