electrostatic sensitive device (ESD)
Electrostatic Sensitive Devices(ESD) are semiconductor components that are susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and can be damaged or destroyed by it.
ESD components are packaged for transport in conductive films or foaming material so that they cannot be damaged by electrostatic discharges during transport or unpacking. To protect against electrostatic discharge, workstations are Electrostatic Protected Areas( EPA) with earth potential reference surfaces( ERP).
Electrostatic Sensitive Devices (ESD) are primarily high impedance components such as MOSFETs, CMOS technology integrated circuits, computer boards, laser diodes, and blue emitting light emitting diodes.
Electrostatic sensitive components are marked with a warning sign. The European standard DINEN 100 015 regulates the protection of electrostatically sensitive components.
