elementary stream (digital TV) (ES)

MPEG-2 recognizes several data streams such as the Program Stream( PS), Transport Stream( TS) and the Elementary Stream( ES).

The Elementary Stream (ES) is the multiplexed data stream from the compressed video and audio. For transmission, the Elementary Stream is packetized and thus becomes the Packetized Elementary Stream( PES). The Packetized Elementary Stream becomes the Transport Stream (TS) through encapsulation.
