end device (home network) (ED)

Terminals are devices that form the input and output devices in networked systems. They are connected directly to the local area networks( LAN) or wide area networks(WAN) and are used for input and output of information.

As for the terminal devices, there are subscriber terminals - this term is mainly used for telecommunication terminals, stationary computers and mobile devices used in mobile networks. Within the network configurations are intermediate devices, which are the switches and routers that define the transmission path between the end devices.

End devices form the user interface. These can be servers, computers, laptops and notebooks, but also smartphones and tablets, printers, scanners, digital cameras and many other devices. While the term End Devices is used for all network configurations, the term Endpoint Device is used for networks that work with TCP/ IP.
