end use measurement device (EUMD)

An End Use Measurement Device (EUMD) is a device in a smart grid that transmits information about the end user's energy use to the Energy Services CommunicationInterface (ESCI). This can also be both used and generated energy. The ESCI interface transmits this data to the electric utility, which could use it to charge electric vehiclebatteries, for example. The data transmitted to the electricity company via the ESCI interface includes the date, time, duration of the energy transmission and the energy supplied.
