enhanced CPRI (eCPRI)

Enhanced CPRI (eCPRI) is a fiber optic interface between Remote Radio Units( RRU) and the baseband unit. It is the further development of the serial CPRI interface from the 4th generation mobile networks.

Since the data volume in 5G networks is many times higher than that in 4G networks, this data volume can no longer be handled by the CPRI interface. The further development is the Enhanced CPRI (eCPRI). This is a fiber-optic interface with which the functions of the baseband unit can be split up and partially relocated to the remote radio unit (RRU), thus reducing the data volume in the fiber.
