enhanced wireless consortium (802.11n) (EWC)

The Enhanced Wireless Consortium (EWC), an association founded in 2005, consists of around 60 semiconductor, electronics and communications companies, and is developing the enhanced specifications for the high-speed standard for WLANs according to 802.11n. These specifications are intended to ensure the interoperability of WLANs in the high-speed range.

With a data rate of 600 Mbit/s, 802.11n is ten times faster than 802.11g. The specifications take into account other advanced technologies such as spatial multiplexing with antenna arrays of up to four antennas, space time block coding( STBC) and multiple data streams such as HDTV, and also ensure interoperability in the mixed mode of 802.11a with 802. 11b and 802.11g.

802.11n is to operate in the license-free frequency bands at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and provide channel widths of 20 MHz and 40 MHz. At least 100 Mbit/s data rate shall be available to the end user.
