equal error protection (audio codec) (EEP)

Equal Error Protection (EEP) are error protection techniques used in audio compression that secure a low packet loss rate bit stream against packet loss. In this method, all data bits are equipped with the same redundancy.

Corresponding error protection codes detect erroneously transmitted data within a data stream and correct them. Such errors occurring during transmission can be caused by attenuation, distortion, delay, overload or conflict situations. There are several error correction codes, each of which uses its own encoding and decoding technique. These are used application-specifically in the audio codecs. This can also be a combination of several methods.

A distinction is made between error detection, error correction and error protection.
