exchange identification (XID)

Exchange Identification (XID) is used for automatic parameter negotiation for the link layer. The structure of the information field of XID is described in ISO 8885. In SNA/ SDLC applications over dial-up lines, XID is used to exchange the controller IDs before link activation. The XID frame is not used in X.25, X. 75, DSS1, 1TR6 and in the Point to Point Protocol ( PPP).
