extended Internet protocol (EIP)

The Extended Internet Protocol (EIP) allows addressing mechanisms to be integrated into routing procedures. The EIP protocol, which is backward compatible with other IP addressing schemes, is described in RFC 1385 and forms a framework for solving addressing problems.
