extensible name service (XNS)

Extensible Name Service (XNS) is an open protocol for the for universal addressing.

XNS is based on the Extensible Markup Language(XML) and has some similarity to the DNS system. While the DNS system resolves a domain name into an IP address, XNS can resolve universal addresses into other addresses.

Thus, a universal address of a web client can be decomposed into the individual contact information such as the address, phone number, and email address, and automatically managed when changes occur.
