All optical waveguides have a secondary cladding, which together with the optical waveguide forms the FO core. Depending on whether the optical waveguide is compactly connected to the cladding, whether it lies loosely in the cladding or whether the cladding contains several optical waveguides, a distinction is made between: solid core, compact core, hollowcore and loose core.
