Firewall Accelerator improves the performance offirewalls. Firewall or appliance servers process the policy and security rules and maintain the session state tables.

These CPU performance based functions reduce the throughput of the firewall. An increase can only be achieved by connecting several firewall systems in parallel or by using an accelerator function, such as that provided by the firewall accelerator.

This stores the session state tables and performs a check against the table for each IP packet. IP packets belonging to an unknown session are referred to the firewall director, which initiates a new entry in the session state table.

This procedure significantly improves the performance of the firewall.
