foundry model

The English word foundry means foundry and is to be interpreted in the foundry model in such a way that enterprises merge certain activities with one another.

The foundry model is a marketing concept of semiconductor manufacturers who cooperate more closely in order to be able to realize the enormous investments in the development, production and marketing of new semiconductor components and integrated circuits( IC).

The foundry model is aimed at production, whereas the term fabless model is used for the development of such components. In the foundry model, several chip manufacturers (IDMs) join forces and concentrate on production and the associated manufacturing services. These include wafer engineering, design and modeling, bonding, package manufacturing, and the development of appropriate test procedures.

It is an outsourcing model where chip manufacturing is outsourced to appropriate manufacturing facilities.
